Cut Social Security for the rich? We already have.
Private Finance – Cut Social Wellbeing for the rich? We already have.
It’s nearly time for one of Washington’s rites of spring: the arrival of the new Social Wellbeing trustees’ report. The report, which is usually issued in April, will show Social Wellbeing’s finances fading because of a higher-than-projected inflation adjustment for 2012. This is likely to touch off a debate over whether to help fix Social Wellbeing’s fiscal harms by denying retirement refund to “the rich.” On the surface, this deal with, known as “means testing,” sounds fantastic. Eliminating payments to retirees with incomes above a certain level would make more void for folks in need. Those greedy rich need to pay their honest share, right? But here’s a dirty small secret: Social Wellbeing is already from the bottom of your heart means-tested. And my circumstances shows it.

Are bonds only for scaredy cats?
Private Finance – Are bonds only for scaredy cats?
If you’re investing for retirement that is still more than 20 years away and you do not have inclination to sell when stocks take a dive, is there any benefit to owning bonds at all? Or are bonds only for scaredy cats who will sell their stocks during a market plunge? — Tom McCarthy, Wilmington, Delaware

SEC Proposes Rules To Help Prevent And Detect Identity Theft
Banking News – SEC Proposes Rules To Help Prevent And Detect Self Theft

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2012-34
Washington, D.C., Feb. 28, 2012 – The Securities and Chat Fee today announced a rule bid to help protect investors from self theft by ensuring that broker-dealers, mutual funds, and other SEC-corresponding entities make programs to detect and respond appropriately to red flags.
The SEC issued the bid jointly with the Commodity Futures Trading Fee (CFTC). Section 1088 of the Dodd-Frank Act transferred power over certain parts of the Honest Credit Exposure Act from the Federal Trade Fee (FTC) to the SEC and CFTC for entities they homogenize. The projected rules are substantially similar to rules adopted in 2007 by the FTC and other federal fiscal dictatorial agencies that were earlier vital to adopt such rules.
The rule bid would require SEC-corresponding entities to adopt a written self theft program that would include evenhanded policies and procedures to:
- Spot noteworthy red flags.
- Detect the occurrence of red flags.
- Respond appropriately to the detected red flags.
- Periodically update the program.
The projected rule would include guidelines and examples of red flags to help firms administer their programs.
The bid will be in print in the Federal Catalog with a 60-day public comment period.
